Paper Thin Speakers coming to a poster near you.
Thursday, 7 May 2009

ICE AV announces that it plans to have paper thin flexible speakers in its portfolio later next year for public distribution.
Developments in research labs worldwide to create a sci-fi generation of flexible technologies that are created akin to literally "printing" the technology on flexible substrates. In this case poster size, paper thin speakers with layered thin electrodes are combined with a prepolarised diaphragm and sandwiched between two sheets of paper to create the speaker.
The technology currently is in pre-launch phase with Taiwan's ITRI opens up a wide range of exciting possibilities and when combined with the pending launch of the iQRite interactive multi-touch kitset frames, a new generation of interactive and communication concepts begin to take place. For example interactive whiteboards that emit sound, paper printed posters emiting sound, or when combined with the iQRite touch technology could also be interactive without the use of TFT LCD panels.
The aim is to mass produce the paper speakers with a cost of $US20. Rolls of the speakers have already been produced .
The $US20 sheets will be 8.5” by 11” and currently have a frequency response of 500Hz to 200Hz. The technology is intended to make its public debut at an upcoming exhibition in Taipei by unveiling a giagantic three-story-high banner that plays music.
